I wanted to share a video we just shared on our own UCLA Transportation Fan Page (yes, we have one too!) featuring a UCLA graduate student posted on the Westside Subway Extension team's Facebook Fan Page.

Click on the photo in order to check out the video on the Westside Subway Extension's Facebook Fan Page.

In the video, David Peterson MA '11 responds to a community member's comment that the subway would be unused by UCLA commuters because of the distance between the proposed station and the heart of the campus.

His response includes a reference to the UCLA Bruin Bus campus shuttle system, which he says will be an asset in the last mile between the proposed station locations in Lot 36 and everyone's final decision.

For your convenience, David's comments are transcribed after the jump.

Hi, my name is David Peterson. I'm a graduate student at UCLA in the Department of Urban Planning. I think tonight, I learned about two proposed station locations. There was a concern about the station being too far from the UCLA campus. I don't think that should be too much of a concern, given UCLA Transportation's shuttle service.

There was a reference made to UC Berkeley's and its distance from the BART station, in that it wasn't very close to the campus - about a 15 to 20 minute walk. I actually did my undergraduate (degree) at UC Berkeley and it's not a problem. Students use it all the time. It was easy get to campus.

I think either location, whether it be Westwood Boulevard or Veteran, would work.
