I recently upgraded to a Google Nexus One app phone, so now it is very easy to keep a photo diary of the changes I observe in Westwood Village. As you know, I am a green commuter at UCLA (and I walk the distance between my office at UCLA Transportation and the corner of Wilshire and Westwood), so I try hard to patronize the businesses and services in the Village to cut down on the amount of time and miles I travel after work.
Here are some of the recent highlights:
- A Toys 'R' Us Express pop-up store is opening in the space Rite-Aid vacated at the southwest corner of Westwood and Kinross. No word in the blogosphere on how long it will be there. I peekedinside, and it appears as though the Toys 'R' Us is taking one-half of the Rite-Aid's original space.
- Construction is finally underway at the former Shell gas station at the corner of LeConte and Gayley. One of my co-workers says is it is going to be an Asian convenience store. I'll believe it when I see a sign.
- As I was Xooting by, I noticed that Foot Foundations, my favorite comfort shoe store, is holding a sale. The store's summer sandals and select Aetrex and MBT shoe models are either 1/3 or 1/2 off. (The salesperson promised they had some shoes in my size left. I'll be there after work.) 907 Westwood Blvd, (310) 443-8900.
- I fully grasped the scope of the construction for Weyburn Terrace Phase 2. The sidewalk on the south side of Weyburn Avenue, just west of Gayley, is closed. (The Weyburn stop on the Bruin Bus/Campus Express route is temporarily closed too, through August 9th).
With the gorgeous point-and-shoot pictures that the Google Nexus One is capable of capturing, I'll be sharing more pictures of my On The Go Adventures here at Be A Green Commuter!
