Big Blue Bus wants your input on proposed service changes

When the second and final phase of Metro’s Expo Line opens in early 2016, a light rail connection will link Santa Monica, West LA, Culver City and downtown LA. The closest station to UCLA will be at Westwood Blvd. and Exposition Blvd., two miles south of campus.

Santa Monica Big Blue Bus (BBB) is currently reevaluating all of its bus routes, looking to leverage the full length of the Expo Line to improve overall public transit service throughout the Westside--several of BBB's proposed changes negatively impact service to UCLA. BBB’s resources to provide bus service, however, will remain relatively unchanged, meaning that any new or enhanced routes will also be accompanied by reduced or eliminated service on other routes within the BBB system. BBB has released an initial set of proposed service changes, which can be viewed at http://expo.bigbluebus.com/home. These are only draft recommendations, and BBB is looking for your input on the proposed changes. If you have concerns regarding particular routes, or would like to suggest a new route, make your voice heard. Submit your comments to bus-info@bigbluebus.com or complete a survey at http://expo.bigbluebus.com/survey/.

UCLA employees and students will also have another opportunity to provide input at an on-campus community meeting which will be announced and take place at the beginning of Fall Quarter.

New Bruin Guide: An intro to the BruinGO! Program

Now that you've settled into your residence halls and apartments, it's time to explore the fun places in Westwood and beyond!

Want to go to the shopping malls or the beach, but don't have a car on campus?  No worries! We've got you covered. It only takes as little as $0.50 to get you to places like Westside Pavillion, the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica or Venice Beach.

The BruinGO! Program is the most popular, convenient and economical travel option to get around West LA among UCLA students. Eligible students get to travel on buses operated by Santa Monica Big Blue Bus (BBB) or Culver CityBus (CCB) for 50% off regular rates. By swiping your BruinCard (on BBB) or showing your card to the driver (on CCB), you only have to pay 50 cents per trip. Remember to keep exact change on hand. You pay half the fare, and UCLA Transportation takes care of the rest!

If you have an internship, live off campus, or simply need to ride the BBB or CCB frequently, we recommend you purchase a BruinGO! Transit Flash Pass. The flash pass allows you to enjoy unlimited rides on buses by both transit providers for just $33 each quarter. Just swipe or show your BruinCard, show your Flash Pass to the driver and board. You can purchase the BruinGO! Transit Flash Pass online here.

If you're new to riding the bus, check out our route planning and riding tips on our website. Most buses run 7 days a week, but be sure to check the bus routes and schedule before you head out!
