Have you pledged for Rideshare Week yet? If you have, don’t forget to swap out your facebook profile image for our “I Pledged!” badge. Your online pledge will automatically enter you into a drawing for dozens of prizes, so get to it! You can also stop by our table today between 11am-1pm at the Wooden Center (Bruin Plaza Side) where you’ll be able to get answers to any questions you have about alternative transportation options.

If you’re looking for a way to fulfill your pledge, Zimride can help (and you might even get to meet your new best friend). UCLA Transportation has partnered with Zimride to give commuters an online space to find someone to carpool with to campus. Registration is quick and easy, and Zimride’s website allows you to limit your search to other individuals within the UCLA network. Zimride’s Facebook app allows users to connect with other riders in their networks. You can create a regular ongoing carpool through the site or just a one-time trip, and you’ll have a chance to get to know your fellow ride-sharers online a bit before riding with them.

Zimride is open to both drivers and passengers. Users can enter their starting location and destination, and the website will automatically pair you with other ride sharers in the same vicinity. You’ll also have an option to name a price (how much to charge if you’re driving or how much to pay if you’re a passenger). Carpooling greatly decreases your carbon footprint and can help you meet friends you would never have come across otherwise. On top of that, carpoolers can save big on UCLA parking permits–and don’t forget about those fantastic HOV lanes!
