I’d like to think that the good people at UCLA, with their below-average drive-alone rates and their dedication to using alternative modes are to thank for the decline in nationwide solo commuting to work, as reported by a press release for the US Census Bureau’s latest American Communities Survey.

Average commute times nationwide are about 25 minutes, although the press release called out Palmdale, Calif. as having posted the highest commute time overall (41 minutes). *sigh.
