West Hollywood recently joined the ranks of bike-shareable cities. It launched its bike-share pilot program last week and unveiled dozens of new green bikes, which will be available at four stations during this initial phase:
- West Hollywood City Hall
- West Hollywood Park
- The intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and North Crescent Heights Boulevard
- Santa Monica Boulevard between Holloway Drive and North Olive Drive
The official launch of WeHo Pedals is August 30, with a total of 150 bicycles and 20 self-service stations.
Bikes can be rented for $7 per hour. Riders can also choose to purchase monthly or annual plans for $25 or $99, which includes 90 minutes of riding time per day. What's more, if you sign up for an annual plan between now and September 5, you will receive a discounted rate of $69 for being a "founding member."
The "Smart Bikes" utilize wireless technology to allow riders to use their smartphones to rent bikes and lock them to designated bike-share docks for free or to any public rack for $2. The WeHo system will also be linked to the Santa Monica and Beverly Hills bike-share systems, giving you access to over 1,000 bikes.
