Herbie Huff MA ’11 (Urban Planning) wrote to let me know about a group bike ride she is organizing through the UCLA Bicycle Coalition, a student group of bike advocates, this coming Wednesday for the upcoming LA City Council Transportation Committee meeting.

From Herbie:

We are riding from UCLA to the Transportation Committee meeting at City Hall on Wednesday. The ride will leave Luvalle Commons at 12:30 in order to get to City Hall in downtown LA by 2 PM.

The Transportation Committee of the City Council will be discussing:
- a motion to create a city ordinance banning harassment of cyclists
- LAPD will report on recent charges of police brutality against cyclists on group rides, and more generally on the LAPD’s relationship with the cycling community
- a motion to increase bike parking requirements in new development

I’ll post information regarding logistics as it gets shared with me. (The mother in me, speaking only for myself, asks that everyone rides safely, wears a helmet, and brings lights.) You can become a fan of the UCLA Bicycle Coalition, a student organization, on Facebook here.

Also, Damien Newton of LA Streetsblog provides more context on new LA City Council transportation chair Bill Rosendahl’s plans to bring together cyclists tomorrow.
