On Thursday, April 16th, the Hammer is hosting a bike-centric evening of food, fun and film. Bike to the museum with friends and get free admission, free bike valet parking by the L.A. County Bike Coalition, performance by Telamatique http://www.myspace.com/telematiquemusic, veggie snacks and drinks, and a screening of Breaking Away.

Nominated for five Academy Awards and winner of one, for Best Original Screenplay, this is the 30th anniversary of a film that captures in a memorable way the lives of kids growing up on the other side of the tracks in a small town. At once a touching, funny coming-of-age story and a compelling sports film, Per the Hammer’s write-up, “the film is full of racing, romance, crashes, opera, and late-1970s bike chic.”
