Labor Day may mark the end of summer, but that won’t stop us from having a fun time outdoors! Metro will be extending its late-night service on September 1 and 2, so that we can enjoy our three-day weekend for a couple more hours. Here are some events to attend during your last few days of summer and the directions to get there on transit.

The Taste

Treat yourself to a fancy food and wine experience at Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood this Labor Day weekend. This festival, sponsored by the L.A. Times, features 5 different culinary events and over 20 restaurants. Tickets to the festival are selling out fast. Directions from UCLA: Take Metro Rapid Line 720 to Western and Wilshire, then take Line 757 to Western and Melrose.

Street Food Cinema

Hang out with your family and friends this Saturday at this outdoor event that features movies, live music and food. Watch a movie outdoor while picnicking at the park at sunset. There will also be more than 10 food trucks at the event, so make sure that you bring cash and an empty stomach! Buy your tickets in advance.

Directions from UCLA: Take the Metro Rapid line 720 to Alvarado / Wilshire, then take Line 200 to Figueroa / 39th.

Los Angeles’ 232nd Birthday

The City of Los Angeles will be celebrating its 232nd anniversary this Saturday at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument. Join the annual nine-mile walk from San Gabriel Mission to El Pueblo to commemorate the early settlers of the area, Los Poblodores. This family-friendly event will be held from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Olvera Street, with food, exhibits and birthday cakes. Put on those comfortable walking shoes and get ready to party!

L.A. County Fair

The L.A. County fair will open this Labor Day weekend in Pomona. Expect to have a lot of fun with carnival rides, shopping, food and drinks at the largest county fair in the country. Bring your kids with you so they can pet live animals and watch pig races! Admission is only $1 if you arrive between 3 and 6 p.m. on opening day, and before 1 p.m. for the rest of the weekend until Labor Day. The L.A. County Fair will also provide free shuttle service to Metrolink riders.

Directions from UCLA : Take Metro Rapid Line 720 to Wilshire / Westwood Station, then take the Metro Purple Line to Union Station. Take bus line 699 by Foothill Transit at Patsaouras Transit Plaza to Cal State LA and walk towards the direction of McKinley Ave.
