2. U Lock + Chain Lock
Remember to always lock your bike to a secure object whenever you leave your bike, even if it's just for a minute or two. Find out how to lock your bike properly here.
3. Water bottle / Hydration pack
Stay hydrated! Always have water with you whether your bike ride is long or short and on both hot and cold days.
4. Headlight and Taillight
Make sure to stay visible on the streets at night. A white headlight and rear, side and pedal reflectors are required by law if you are riding after dark.
5. Basic repair and maintenance kit
A small tool such as a tire lever or a folding multitool comes in handy in times of need. If you are looking for tools that are more bike-specific, feel free to use our bike repair stations around the UCLA campus for quick tune-ups.
6. Mobile phone
It's best to have your mobile phone on you in case of emergency. If you have a smartphone, you can also use it for GPS for navigation, a camera OR you can tweet @UCLACommute to tell us about your bike ride!
Protect your eyes from UV radiation, especially in our beautiful and sunny Los Angeles weather!
9. Photo ID
Always have some sort of photo ID and contact information on you in case of emergency.
In case the weather takes a turn for the worse or you run out of energy, it's always great to have the option of hopping onto public transit with your bike instead.
